On the 20th Anniversary of the Teddy Ruxpin Property,
Independent Label Headed By Industry Veteran Ryan Kugler
Announces Plans to Release All 65 Episodes of the Classic Series on DVD

BURBANK, CA (Sept. 21, 2005) — First National Pictures (FNP), the new DVD distributor led by Ryan Kugler, president of DV&A, has acquired the North American DVD rights from DLT Entertainment for The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin. FNP’s releases will mark the DVD debut of the classic cartoon series based on the iconic animatronic toy celebrating its 20th Anniversary this month and returning to store shelves next year with state-of-the-art MP3 technology for an entirely new generation of children to enjoy.

Much adored by children and families in the 1980’s, the series follows Teddy Ruxpin and his best friends Grubby and Newton Gimmick through 65 episodes of musical adventures in which the trio seeks out the true purpose of six newly-discovered ancient crystals. FNP plans to respond to the incredible demand of fans everywhere by releasing the entire series on DVD over the coming years. Details about specific DVD content and release scheduling are to be announced at a later date.

“The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin is the perfect example of the type of content that FNP is proud to bring to children and families,” FNP President and CEO Ryan Kugler said. “Each episode focuses on purity of spirit, the value of knowledge and a love of storytelling, giving parents a great product by which to help reinforce positive messages with their children. We are thrilled to be working with such a well-established and highly-respected partner as DLT Entertainment.”

“We’re delighted to be working with First National Pictures on the distribution of Teddy Ruxpin,” said DLT Entertainment Vice President Donald Taffner, Jr. “Although a number of companies expressed interest in acquiring these rights, the FNP sales team showed the greatest level of enthusiasm, energy and imagination. This sale to FNP, as well as the introduction of the new Teddy toy, will help DLT as we re-launch the Teddy Ruxpin series of 65 episodes to TV and video outlets throughout the world.”

First National Pictures was founded by Ryan Kugler, who also serves as president of DV&A, the nation’s largest close-out buyer of home entertainment product. Named for the early twentieth century movie studio responsible for films such as Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid, FNP was established to provide children’s and family entertainment of the highest quality at the lowest possible prices. FNP is on an aggressive acquisition search to find the top children’s properties not yet available on DVD. The company plans to announce a second familiar animated property and upwards of a dozen live-action family films within the coming months. All of FNP’s releases are push-and-play, available on DVD format only, and are available for the suggested retail price of $9.99 - $12.99.

The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin premiered on television during the fall of 1987, two years after the debut of the revolutionary doll upon which it was based. When the talking teddy bear was introduced on Sept. 18, 1985, the bear became an overnight sensation and one of the 10 top-selling toys for three consecutive years. Accompanied by tapes and read-along storybooks, Teddy Ruxpin fostered an enjoyment of reading and storytelling that made him a favorite among parents. The Teddy Ruxpin television show achieved unimaginable popularity, airing in more than 70 territories worldwide, and selling more than one million VHS tapes to consumers. A recent fan-based petition to bring the series to DVD garnered more than 650 signatures, a demand which First National Pictures is happy to be meeting. An updated version of the toy with state-of-the-art MP3 technology is scheduled to hit store shelves next year from BackPack Toys, and is available now via their website at
